Moving this Winter?

It can seem like there is never a right time to move – endless packing, unpacking, planning and the heavy lifting galore can seem daunting. For those of you who find yourselves moving in the brisk winter months may be faced with more of a challenge, especially if you are moving from a milder climate.

Here are some handy tips for you unlucky ones who are moving to an alpine climate in the chilly winter months. Just remember to bring your winter gear to make the most of the season as well.

1. Well, if you don’t mind the cold, the winter can prove to be a great month to move due to price breaks from moving companies trying to drum up some business during their slow season.

2. Stay WARM! Remember to pack all your winter essentials separately and to keep them nearby, as you would your tooth brush. There is nothing worst than finding yourself in a new climate totally unprepared. And remember, just because the local meteorologist claims it to be nice weather, doesn’t mean you can’t prepare.

3. Drive Safe: take extra care when driving the treacherous roads known as highways. Winter in particular is a time susceptible to harsh winter conditions – especially within the mountain passes along the highways.

4. Warm up your home! Make sure your moving company knows when to expect you and they turn on the heat a few days before you arrive. So, even if you are sleeping on the floor the first few nights in your home, at least you won’t be freezing.

5. Discover your new urban alpine community: Go and have fun. Explore the local shops (wearing your well thought out winter gear) and take the family skating. See what winter has to offer in your new community.

Now that you are all packed for your winter move, enjoy it. Make the most of your winter experience. Just be sure that you planned properly for any sort of emergency in the cold. Winter is a terrible time to get a flat tire or something of the sort.
