Show Homes in the Kootenays - A Purchasing Guide

If you are looking to move to a new urban alpine community, you will most likely be purchasing a home from builder’s plans, a show home or a combination of the two. There are a few key thoughts to making a good purchase decision – first, don’t rush; and secondly, make sure the home builder is someone with a solid reputation and sales staff who support you and work with you through the buying process.

Show Home PlansHere are some helpful tips to help you find that perfect house when you’re looking to build:

1. When selecting a builder, go through each butilder’s information package. Get a specification sheet that lists all the materials, systems and finishing materials in detail. Look to see if the materials come with a manufacturers warranty.

2. Look at the quality of the builder’s show homes. It might not be the particular plan you like, but it will be a good indicator of the build quality.

3. Notice the upgrades in a show home. Upgrades should be posted with prices and options, but if in doubt, ask for clarification.

4. When you find a builder/show home that interests you, ask the sales person to guide you around the house and explain to you in detail what has been upgraded, and what is included in the price.

5. Imagine living in your favourite show home. How would the house fit your daily routine or the your favourite activities?

6. Ensure that your furniture would fit into the home. Know the dimensions of your furniture, and bring a measuring tape to make sure your furniture will fit.

7. If you have your pick of a lot for your home, consider the immediate area around it. Where will you get the sun? Is there privacy or protection from outdoor noise?

With these handy dandy tips from Region Home Builders you will now know what to look for when purchasing a new home in a new community.
